JF Robitaille - Black & White

Published

Occasionally two artists intersect, but it's never black and white. In JF Robitaille's video, "Black and White", Robitaille and Toronto visual artist, Janieta Eyre, have discovered a rare moment when two separately conceived bodies of work merge together to create a unified voice. Robitaille's song "Black and White" serves as a musical landscape and soundtrack to the arresting self portraits created by artist Janieta Eyre. Janieta Eyre is quickly becoming one of Canada's most recognized contemporary photographic artists. Her piece, "The Day My Eye Laid an Egg", which was featured this year on the cover of Toronto's Now Magazine during the Scotiabank Contact Photography Festival, confirmed the significance of the work she has created over the last decade. Robitaille's composition "Black and White" comes from his recently released album "Rival Hearts". Aya Tsintziras of the National Post concluded that "JF Robitaille is more than wearing his heart on his sleeve.....he's pouring his heart into his lyrics."When Robitaille was introduced to Eyre's work he felt it resonated deeply, seeming to depict the music for "Black and White". JF's performance and Janieta's art are captured through the motion picture photography of award winning cinematographer Robin Miller, and editor Ryan Taylor. The video "Black and White" serves as a raw and revealing observation of both artists.
